Now here's a guy with a unique ability for incisive thinking.....

A Maryland resident petitions his senator

June 7, 2006

The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Sarbanes,

As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the
Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for you assistance. I
have contacted the Immigration and Naturalization Service in an
effort to determine the process for becoming and illegal alien and they
referred me to you.

My reasons for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to
illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the
Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's
provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United
States for five years, what I need to do to become a citizen is to pay
a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years.

I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process
started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who
have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited
about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying
a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal
retroactively? This would yeild an excellent result for me and my
family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my duaghter
would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school
applications.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become
illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms,
I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,

Paul McGlaughlin

Letter from an ex-U.S. Border Patrol agent.....Written in 2006

Dear Senator Frist,

There is a huge amount of propaganda and myths circulating about illegal aliens,
particularly illegal Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan and Honduran aliens.

1. Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Americans are very vain
thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans, and
other nationalities want to remain citizens of their home countries while obtaining
the benefits offered by the United States such as employment, medical care, in-state
tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their
main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want
benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want
are benefits of American residence without paying the price.

2. There are no jobs that Americans won't do. Illegal aliens are doing jobs that
Americans can't take and still support their families. Illegal aliens take low wage
jobs, live dozens in a single residence home, share expenses and send money to
their home country. There are no jobs that Americans won't do for a decent wage.

3. Every person who illegally entered this nation left a home. They are NOT homeless
and they are NOT Americans. Some left jobs in their home countries. They come to send
money to their real home as evidenced by the more that 20 billion dollars sent out of the
country each year by illegal aliens. These illegal alliens knowingly and willfully entered this
nation in violation of the law and therefore assumed the risk of detection and deportation.
Those who brought their alien children assumed the responsibility and risk on behalf of their children.

4. Illegal aliens are NOT critical to the economy. Illegal aliens constitute less than 5%
of the workforce. However, they reduce wages and benefits for lawful U.S. residents.

5. This is NOT an immigrant nation. There are 280 million native born Americans. While
it is true that this nation was settled and founded by immigrants (legal immigrants), it is
also true that there is not a nation on this planet that was not settled by immigrants at
one time or another.

6. The United States is welcoming to legal immigrants. Illegal aliens are not immigrants
by definition. The U.S. accepts more lawful immigrants every year than the rest of
the world combined.

7. There is no such thing as the "Hispanic vote". Hispanics are white, brown, black
and every shade inbetween. Hispanics are Republicans, Democrats, Anarchists,
Communists, Marxists and Independents. The so-called "Hispanic vote" is a myth.
Pandering to illegal aliens to geth the Hispanic vote is a dead end.

8. Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented
the United States. During World War I Mexico allowed German Spies to operate freely
im Mexico to spy on the U.S. During World War II Mexico allowed the Axis powers to
spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the
U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded
all across Mexico. Today Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California,
Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. If you don't believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks
written for their schoolchildren.

9. Although some illegal aliens enter this country for a better life, there are 6 billion people
on this planet. At least 1 billion of those live on less that one dollar a day. If wanting a
better life is a valid excuse to break the law and sneak into America, then let's allow those
one billion to come to American and we'll turn the USA into a Thrid World nation overnight.
Besides, there are 280 million native born Americans who want a better life. I'll bet Bill Gates
and Donald Trump want a better life. When will the USA lifeboat be full? Since when is wanting
a better life a good reason to trash another nation?

10. There is a labor shortage in this country. This is a lie. There are hundreds of thousands, if
not millions, of American housewives, senior citizens, students, unemployed and underemployed
who would gladly take jobs at a decent wage.

11. It is racist to want secure borders. What is racist about wanting secure borders and a secure
America? What is racist about not wanting people to sneak into America and steal benefits
we have set aside for legal aliens, senior citizens, children and other legal residents? What
is it about race that entitles people to violate our laws, steal identities, and take the American
Dream without paying the price?

For about four decades American politicians have refused to secure our borders and look
after the welfare of middle class Americans. These politicians have been of both parties.
A huge debt to American society has resulted. This debt will be satisfied and the interest will
be high. There has already been riots in the streets by illegal aliens and their supporters.
There will be more. You, as a politician, have a choice to offend the illegal aliens who have
stolen into this country and demanded the rights afforded to U.S. citizens or to offend those
of us wha are stakeholders in this country. The interest will be steep either way. There will
be civit unrest. There will be a reconing. Do you have the courage to do what is right for
America? Or, will you bow to the wants and needs of those who don't even have the right
to remain here?

There will be a reckoning. It will come in November of this year, again in 2008 and yet
again in 2010.

We will not allow America to be stolen by third world agitators and thieves.

Theodore Roosevelt

Amen to this 99 years later. What a visionary that Teddy R.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an American in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith
becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact
equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man
because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person't becoming
in every facet an American, nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance
here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.
We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language....
and We have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

To Kill an American
Written by an Australian Dentist

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually
a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer
of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to
let everyone know what an American is so that they would know
when they found one. (Good one, mate!)

"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish
Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican,
African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian,
or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot
Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known
as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or
Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than Afghanistan.
The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as
each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will
answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs
claiming to speak for the government and or God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history
of the world. The root of that propserity can be found in the
Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given
right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about
every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking
a thing in return. When Afghanistan was overrun by the Soviet army
20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the
people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans has given more than
any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best
of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best
food, the best services. But they also welcome the least. The national symbol
of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the
wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These
in fact are the people who built America.

So you can try to kill and American if you must. Hitler did. So did General
Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the
world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans
are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment
of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere,
is an American."

How well said...and I personally thank that Australian dentist.....

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

1. How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the tomb of the Unknowns and why?

•   21 steps. It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is the highest honor given any millitary or foreign dignitary.

2. How long does he hesitate after his about face to begin his return walk and why?
•   21 seconds for the same reason as answer number 1

3. Why are his gloves wet?
•   His gloves are moistened to prevent his loosing his grip on the rifle.

4. Does he carry his rifle on the same shoulder all the time and if not, why not?
•   He carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb. After his march across the path, he executes an about face and      moves the rifle to the outside shoulder.

5. How often are the guards changed?
•   Guards are changed every thirty minutes, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

6. What are the physical traits of the guard limited to?
•   For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb, he must be between 5'10" and 6'2"tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30". Other requirements of the Guard: They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives. They cannot swear in public for the rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform (fighting) or the tomb in any way. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only 400 presently worn. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their lives or give up the wreath pin.

The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the tip of the show in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt. There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform. Guards dress for duty in front to a full-length mirror.

The first six months of guard duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor watch TV. All off duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. A guard must memorize who they are and where they are interred. Among the notables are: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis (the boxer) and Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy, (the most decorated soldier of WWII) of Hollywood fame.

Every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington, DC, our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment. They respectrully declined the offer, "No way, Sir!" Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceman. The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.

May God Bless and keep them....

Veterans Day originated in 1921, when an unknown World War 1 American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Similar ceremonies occurred earlier in England and France, where an unknown soldier was buried in each nation's highest place of honor. These memorial gestures took place on November 11, to recognize the ending of World War 1 at 11 a.m., on November 11, 1918. It became known as "Armistice Day" to honor the World War 1 veterans, with the idealistic hope that World War 1 was the war to end all wars.

In 1953, the holiday name was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. The purpose of Veterans Day is to thank and honor all those who have served honorably in the military---in wartime or peacetime.

I hope we all take a moment of Friday to say a silent Thank You - To the military that protects us, the military that fights for our freedom and the military who have died for us.
